usually 7 or 8 before I come up with any feeling of it but I’m already not liking today.

I hate the things I do to myself.

Draft

Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this makes you proud and relate to the person you are?

I will until, I will until. I’ve recently committed my life to what I truly believe in and I will until. “Through my thoughts and actions to live the life granted to me in devotion to those with a greater need than my own.” That is a portion of the life pledge I’ve made. I am proud to have found my life’s purpose, and to have the confidence to decide that it’s happening.

It’s baffling to see the masses go through life thinking of themselves, ‘looking out for number one’, that phrase in itself is disgusting to me. I was born and raised in Mexico, granted it isn’t the poorest country, but I’ve seen complete poverty there. I lived near it, I played with kids who lived in a cardboard and tin roof houses. Even then I knew there was something wrong there, at nine years old I wondered why no one helped these people.

When I was ten, my mom decided to move us to the U.S., after ten years of being in Mexico she must have realized our lives weren’t going where she wanted them to. At the time I was devastated to be moving away from everything I’d ever known, now I completely agree. The only thing I saw in my future was a job after high school, if I finished, and not much beyond that.

The old stories and cliches that say that the U.S. is the land of opportunity are true. My life now is unrecognizable to my ten year old self back in Mexico in the best way possible; I’ve found a way to financially support myself for life and I can do what I truly want to do in life. The key point is that I haven’t forgotten what it was like, the people in need and living near poverty myself. Not only that, but since then I’ve learned of more people suffering and in need.

There was a night not too long ago when I found myself in tears, sobs even because I realized my life was changing at that moment. I wept for the life plan I used to have, those that I didn’t have the chance to help, and crying tears of happiness for the people I would encounter now that I had made this choice.

My vision is to have a network of nonprofit organizations that each help a different cause. I’m seeking people with a similar vision, and am fortunate to have a best friend with similar vision as well. I’ve acquired a sense of urgency and assurance since I made my pledge. I can no longer imagine living life only for myself, I find it hard to believe how others do it. I’m proud to have found my purpose in life, and to have pledged my life to it, I know no one lives forever, but I hope to create something that will, a cycle of people helping others.

These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.

"Harry Potter is all about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend."

Things that amaze my restless mind (and make it slow down for a while):These amazing pictures were taken by Anatoly Beloshchin in the cave Cenote Angelita, Mexico. Here’s his description: “We are 30 meters deep, fresh water, then 60 meters deep – salty water and under me I see a river, island and fallen leaves… Actually, the river, which you can see, is a layer of hydrogen sulphide.”

This is amazing. It’s like a river under water.
